Description
Listing of twelve baptisms of children on May 5, 1700 at Schenectady Dutch Reformed Church, as the church was then known. Domine (Rev.) Joannes Petrus Nucella, who was visiting from Albany's Dutch Reformed Church, performed the baptisms. The record of the baptisms is on page 113 of First Reformed Church of Schenectady's Register Vol. 1, Baptisms 1694-1728. The three columns are Child, Parents, and Witnesses or Sponsors. Eight girls, including a pair of twins, and four boys were baptized. The parents and sponsors, some of whom were well-known figures in local history, were Dutch, English, French, Mohawk, Norwegian and Scottish. This baptismal record shows a recovering and growing Schenectady ten years after its destruction in 1690. See the transcription/description of the record. This item was added as part of the Diversity and Collaborative Knowledge Program funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
