Description
An identity card issued to a Tutsi woman shortly before the Rwandan Genocide, which saw more than 800,000 civilians (primarily Tutsis) killed by Hutus between April and July 1994. The introduction of compulsory identity cards in 1932 turned the once fluid socio-economic categories of Hutu and Tutsi, into rigid ethnic groups.
