Description
Portrait of Benjamin Ferencz in military attire shortly after joining the Army in 1943. During his years of service he was involved in many of the major engagements of the Western Front, including the Normandy landings and the Battle of the Bulge. Towards the end of the war he was assigned to General George S. Patton's War Crimes Branch to gather evidence of Nazi brutality and apprehend the criminals responsible. After the war Ferencz would continue this work as the chief prosecutor of the Einsatzgruppen Trial which tried 24 leaders of the SS in 1947.
