Description
Carte des Massacres et des Déportations d'Arméniens [Map of the Massacres and the Deportations of the Armenians] from "Rapport sur l'unité géographique de l'Arménie" [Report on the Geographic Unity of Armenia] by Zadig Khanzadian. This map illustrates the routes used in the Armenian Genocide (1915-1923) which led to the death of around 1,500,000 Armenians. Many of these paths ended either in death marches through the Syrian Desert or mass drownings in the Black Sea. This event was part of a larger process of ethnic cleansing which saw Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, Kurds, and Jews targeted by massacres, pogroms, and deportations in the late Ottoman Empire and early Turkish Republic.
