Description
Excerpt from "Die Verfassung des Deutschen Reichs (The Constitution of the German Reich)," written in 1919, more commonly known as the Weimar Constitution. This constitution governed Germany as a republic during the Weimar period from 1919 to 1933. The weaknesses of the constitution and the turbulent years of the interwar period allowed for the rise of Nazi Germany in 1933. In practice, this made the constitution obsolete, however, at least on paper, this document continued to govern the country until the formation of West Germany and East Germany in 1949.
