Illustration removed from, History of the first locomotives in America, by William H. Brown (1871). The illustration is a reproduction of a cut-out made by Brown who was a passenger of the first excursion of the locomotive De Witt Clinton on August 9, 1831 from Albany to Schenectady. The De Witt Clinton was the third locomotive built in America. It was forged at the West Point Foundry Works in New York. The caption also lists all of the passengers on the excursion. New York State Freedom Train (1949) Collection, No. 66.
