Description
This image depicts the dress of German Jews of the 12th century. Though created by Aleksander Lesser, a 19th century Polish painter, this illustration is based upon an earlier painting by Herrad of Landsberg, which featured in her medieval enyclopedia, "Hortus deliciarum." Tragically the original was burned during the 1870 Siege of Strasbourg.
