Description
Italian Black Shirts march at Camp Siegfried in Yaphank, New York on Long Island. In the background a sign with the words "Deutscher Tag von Long Island 1937" [German Day of Long Island 1937] is flanked on the left with an American flag banner and on the right with a swastika banner. The summer camp was operated by the German American Settlement League (an offshoot of the German American Bund) in the hopes of indoctronating German-American children with Nazi ideology. Though the camp was closed during the Second World War, the League continued to operate a planned community on the land which maintained discriminatory policies against those not "primarily of German extraction" until 2017.
