Description
An antisemitic poster dropped by an airplane on the downtown streets of Los Angeles on April 4, 1938. It accuses Jews of infiltrating the Roosevelt administration, stealing white peoples' jobs, and promoting communism. It uses four quotes as proof of the malicious nature of the Jewish people. One comes from a fraudulent speech called the Franklin Prophecy, supposedly given by Benjamin Franklin at the Constitutional Convention in 1787, though it was first published in William Dudley Pelley's pro-Nazi publication "Liberation" in 1934. Two come from Jewish author, Samuel Roth's notoriously self-depricating book "Jews Must Live." And one is a common mistranslation of Bava Metzia 114b in the Talmud. The Franklin Prophecy, "Jews Must Live," and misquotations of the Talmud were commonly used by antisemites in both America and Germany to justify their hatred.
