Description
A photograph of Lyman Epps Sr. Lyman Epps Sr was a man who accepted a land grant from Gerrit Smith in North Elba, NY in hopes of a better life with new opportunities away from the dangers of slavery in the mid 1800s. The lands Gerrit Smith granted out came to be known as Timbuctoo. It was a harsh environment deep in the Adirondacks with harsh weather conditions. Although tough for farming, Lyman Epps managed to become one of the most successful and well known settlers of Timbuctoo.
