Description
This picture was drawn in a refugee camp in Chad by 10 year old Darfuri boy, Hillal Altoum Idriss, who recalls his village being attacked during the Darfur Genocide (2003-2005). When the Janjaweed militia group and Sudan's military attacked villages in Darfur, they shot anybody in sight including elderly women and children. The attacks were intense, and the government used helicopter gunships to bomb and burn villages. Armed Janjaweed militia came on camels and reinforced the government ground troops that were using armored tanks and trucks to attack villagers.
