Description
This Palampore was owned by Philip and Maria Van Rensselaer. It was used like a bedspread, or sometimes it was hung on the wall. The printed and dyed cotton was made in India in the 1700s. It was then imported by Philip, a wealthy merchant. Philip and his wife, Maria, had Cherry Hill built in 1787. This item was added as part of the Diversity and Collaborative Knowledge Program funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
