Description
Polish-Jewish refugees lined up outside of the Japanese consulate in Kaunas, Lithuania waiting for visas from Chiune (Sempo) Sugihara. Sugihara saved over 2,000 Jewish refugees from the Holocaust by issuing Japanese transit visas that allowed them to escape to the East Asia. Photograph taken by Setsuko Kikuchi.
