Two typewritten leaves (26 x 19 cm) of the original draft of The Rough Riders by Theodore Roosevelt. Leaf 2 includes an extended note written in Roosevelt's hand detailing the numbers and movements of Spanish and American troops leading up to the Battle of El Caney and the Battle of San Juan Hill. Also includes autograph signed dedication (11 x 14 cm) dated May 1, 1899 from the Executive Mansion in Albany, New York when Roosevelt was governor of New York State. Roosevelt commanded the First Volunteer Cavalry, also known as the "Rough Riders," who gained fame for their actions on the battlefield in Cuba during the Spanish-American War.
