Life at the Homestead

Samuel Townsend was a farmer, ship owner, merchant, Justice of the Peace, Town Clerk, member of the New York Congress, and later was a New York State senator. His house in Oyster Bay was home to his wife and eight children. He also enslaved at least twenty Black people, including Liss.
