Spies Wanted
New York City was so essential to General Washington’s plans for victory that he was willing to go to any length to recapture it, including sending an ill-prepared spy named Nathan Hale on what proved to be a fatal mission to Long Island. Thankfully, several other more successful spies emerged, including David Maltbie and the Culper Spy Ring, headed up by Abraham Woodhull. Still, Washington needed someone on the inside in Manhattan.
