Description

An act to establish the Cornell University, and to appropriate to it the income of the sale of public lands granted to this state by Congress. Description from a published volume: "Leading object 'to teach such branches of learning as are related to agriculture and the mechanic arts, including military tactics, in order to promote the liberal and practical education of the industrial classes in the several pursuits and professions in life.' A land grant college, it was to receive income from the sale of lands under the First Morrill Act, July 2, 1862. Preference was to be given (other qualifications being equal) to the sons of those who had died in Military or Naval service of the United States." 1949-1950 New York State Freedom Train Document No. 74.
