Special Note: You may wish to have your students discuss the ability of individuals to effect change by reading about each of the individuals listed below and answering the following questions:

  1. What does the instinct of many of these individuals to document their experiences  teach us about the importance of memory, history, and knowledge in the face of oppression? How can the preservation of memory, history, and knowledge serve as an act of resistance?
  2. How do the stories of these individuals challenge traditional narratives of Jewish resistance during the Holocaust?
  3. What can we learn about the importance of individual responsibility in times of oppression?
