Students read an article about  The Poisonous Mushroom (German: Der GiftPilz)  and examine images from the book. ). This children’s book facilitates discussion on stereotypes and their impact on perpetuating antisemitism.

Objectives
Students will analyze the content and imagery of the Nazi-era children’s book The Poisonous Mushroom (Der Giftpilz) to identify and critique the use of harmful stereotypes.
Through guided discussion and reflection, students will evaluate how propaganda contributes to the spread of antisemitism and understand the role of children’s books in shaping societal attitudes.

Instructions
  1. Have students read and answer the questions on the article on The Poisonous Mushroom.   

  1. Then direct the students to examine the cover of the children’s book and the four pages and facilitate a discussion on how these illustrations reflect the themes of the book, specifically addressing the stereotypes and their impact on perpetuating antisemitism.
